THE HARD TRUTH

The City measures their success by tax dollar growth and not public quality of life

The current traffic problems were not predicted by any previous traffic studies

Traffic studies use assumptions that favor the developer

Tired of the traffic jams around McEver and Dawsonville Hwy?

The bad news is they are going to get significantly worse soon.

As you know, Dawsonville Hwy traffic is sometimes approaching gridlock status during rush hour, and it is only going to get worse.

Attached is a Development Plan from Oak Hall for a new massive development that will feed additional traffic into Dawsonville Hwy. It will start behind the North Lake Shore Mall (Academy Sports, Hobby Lobby, Burlington Coat Factory,....) and continue along Dawsonville Hwy towards the Lanier Bridge, past Martin Docks. It will include space for 900 + residences as well as significant additional office space, shopping and restaurants. Also, attached are the 3 rezoning requests that will be put forth to the Planning and Appeals board to allow the development to move forward.

It is estimated this development will add more than 6,000 cars per day to the Dawsonville Hwy load.

WE SHOULD REQUEST A MORATORIUM ON NEW DEVELOPMENTS UNTIL A PLAN TO ADDRESS THE TRAFFIC PROBLEMS IS PUT IN PLACE

The first approval meeting for this development will be the

Planning and Appeals Board on May 9

There will also be two City Council meetings on June 6 and July 11 where the plans will be reviewed and either accepted or rejected. All the meetings will start at 5:30 pm and will be held at the City Council Municipal Courtroom of the Gainesville Justice Center within the Public Safety Complex, 701 Queen City Parkway, Gainesville, GA 30501

It will be essential to have a large turnout to express any concerns you may have and demand the existing traffic issues be resolved prior to approval of any new development.
